How to increase my laptop battery capacity (not battery life)?

Some people find that their laptop batteries can only power laptops in a short period of time, far from meeting their needs. Even if following the method on the page "16 Tips To Extend Your Laptop Battery Life", they still fail to resolve the issue. This is caused by the low capacity of the battery. To change the status quo, the first thing to do is to increase the capacity of laptop batteries!

"Battery capacity" is a measure (typically in Amp-hr) of the charge stored by the battery, and is determined by the mass of active material contained in the battery. The battery capacity represents the maximum amount of energy that can be extracted from the battery under certain specified conditions.

Unfortunately, over the time the capacity of each battery falls permanently. This is caused by the electrochemical changes taking place in the cells. The process, colloquially referred to as battery wear, leads to a decrease in the volume of the active material and shortens battery life.

Of course, there are some ways of achieving larger capacities which will enable achieving better battery durability over time and longer lifetime. Currently, three such methods are used:

A New Battery

All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, battery capacity will degrade. For the typical user, noticeable reduction in run time generally will be observed after 18 to 24 months. For a power user, reduction in run time generally may be experienced prior to 18 months. We recommend buying a new laptop battery when the battery capacity does not meet your needs.

Bigger Laptop Battery

These are batteries with additional cells in the form of a laptop stand or an extension outside the matrix. Depending on the number of cells added, such batteries have correspondingly better performance values. Typically, these are batteries with capacity increased by 150% or 200%. As can be seen, the battery operating time can be increased significantly but this unfortunately involves increased dimensions and weight of the laptop.

Spare Battery

If there is no larger capacity battery available, while a single one of low capacity doesn't meet your demands, you can prepare multiple spare batteries to continue working. But it is limited to those laptop batteries who are external and removable.
